UPDATE 9:15 PM - The Sooners were strong from the mound in their first two games of the season but that certainly wasn't the case on Saturday night when they fell to Notre Dame by a score of 10-9. Starter Alec Hansen was rocked for six runs, off six hits, in his three innings of work and Blake Rogers wasn't any better after giving up 4 runs in three innings.

Trailing 10-3 at the start of the seventh, Oklahoma started a rally that fell just shy. The Sooners posted three runs in that frame and then four more in the ninth to pull to within a single run. Alex Wise continued his hot start to the season by going 3-of-4 from the plate with a home run and three total runs scored. Kolby Carpenter also went yard, in what was Oklahoma's best offensive performance of the young season, but it wasn't enough to overcome the poor start from the mound.

The Sooners and Irish will play the rubber match on Sunday at Noon and then Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 4:00 PM

---

UPDATE 3:30 PM - Backed by a solid pitching performance from Corey Copping and 4 RBI from Anthony Hermelyn the Sooners pounded SIUE 11-1 in the first game on Saturday. Copping struck out six in seven innings and allowed just a single run while Hermelyn delivered two hits and produced a game-high 4 RBI.

Craig Aikin and Austin O'Brien each crossed home plate three different times for the Sooners and O'Brien delivered Oklahoma's first long-ball of the season when he sent a 1-0 pitch over the right-center wall in the 8th inning to bring us to complete the scoring for the day.

Oklahoma plays their second game of the day at 5:00 when they host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Sooners beat Notre Dame by a final score of 6-1 on Friday night.

The Sooners are home again for two games on Saturday. OU will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 1:00 and the will host Notre Dame for the second game of their series around 5:00.

We'll update here as much as possible and please feel free to join in on the conversation.

The Oklahoma Sooners started the 2015 college baseball season with a 6-1 win over Notre Dame on Friday night. As you can imagine afterwards the players and coaches were elated to see the season start out with a big win. We were able to catch up with Craig Aikin, Coach Pete Hughes, winning pitcher Jake Elliott and newcomer Alex Wise to hear what they had to say about the win.

Aikin knocked in two RBI for the Sooners while Elliott picked up the win after pitching seven strong innings of scoreless ball. The story of the night may have been Alex Wise who went 3-for-5 from the plate, and scored twice, as Oklahoma's new lead off batter.

The Sooners are back in action again on Saturday to face Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 1:00 (CST) and then their second game against Notre Dame with a first pitch scheduled around 5:00 PM.

It started slow for Oklahoma but once the Sooners got their offense rolling, they were way too much for a Notre Dame team that was struggling to produce. Jacob Elliott was masterful in his start by throwing seven full innings and allowing no runs off two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Jacob Evans closed the game out by fanning four batters over the final two innings but was also on the hook for Notre Dame's run. That run came in the top of the eighth when Cavan Biggio doubled down the left field line to score Kyle Fiala. The Irish finished the night with just three total hits and were sat down by Oklahoma pitchers eight times by strike out.

Oklahoma's first runs of the 2015 baseball season came on a third inning barrage where they pounded Notre Dame with three runs. Junior Alex Wise got things started for the Sooners in the inning with a triple off the left-center wall. Craig Aikin brought him home on the next at bat with a single through the left side. After stealing second, Aikin was brought home by Sheldon Neuse, on a single to the shortstop, to score the second run of the inning. Neuse then became the third run to score when he came home on an Austin O'Brien sacrifice.

In all, the Sooners posted six runs off twelve hits against the Irish. They scattered single runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to get to their final of six runs. Newcomer Alex Wise was strong in his debut. The JUCO transfer from NEO went 3-for-5 from the plate and scored twice. "These guys (talking about the newcomers) are going to make big, big contributions early," junior Craig Aikin said. After spending the first two years of his Oklahoma career as the leadoff man, Aikin moved to the two-hole and produced two RBI while going 2-of-three. He also scored twice for the the Sooners. "We're attacking," he said, "We're not holding back. We're going to go out swinging, we're gonna steal bases and we're gonna hit. You're going to have to make a play to throw us out."
