Its time to move Baker Mayfield from the walk-on to the scholarship category. Texas Tech's true freshman made a case for the Big Twelve's offensive player of the week for the second consecutive week. This time the victim was a Stephen F. Austin secondary that Mayfield shredded for 367 yards and three touchdown passes.

Leading 45-7 at the half, this game was never in jeopardy for the Red Raiders as they haven't been challenged for two weeks in a row now. That may all change on Thursday night though when Texas Tech plays their conference opener against TCU.

While Jake Heaps former team was shocking the Texas Longhorns he was helping the Kansas Jayhawks do something that hadn't been done since the season opener of 2012...win a football game.

After falling behind to South Dakota in the first quarter, Kansas got on the board for the first time this season with a one-yard plunge by James Sims as the second quarter got under way. Heaps would then throw a 5-yard touchdown pass to former Sooner Justin McCay and the Jayhawks were well on their way to victory.

Kansas would score 24 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 and then put the game away on an 8-yard run by Brandon Bourbon, in the fourth quarter, to get to the final score of 31-14.

Regardless of how frustrated Oklahoma fans may be over the current quarterback situation they at least still have one thing going in their favor...they're not the Texas Longhorns. They didn't just fall victim to a shocking road loss and they didn't just give up 550 yards on the ground. Those are the type of issues that Texas fans are dealing with and the aftermath of their 40-21 loss at BYU may have defensive coordinator Manny Diaz packing his bags as early as this week.

The Cougars ran the ball a staggering 72 times for an average of 7.6 yards per carry. If you thought last year's Texas team was bad against the rush, this was a <strike>performance</strike> giant piece of garbage for the ages. BYU sophomore quarterback Taysom Hill ran for 259 yards and three touchdowns with an average of 15.2 yards per carry.

With Oklahoma and Oklahoma State moving their offenses to a run oriented attack that features mobile quarterbacks, the Texas football season just got that much more interesting looking down their schedule. For now, it appears as if the Longhorns were massively over-hyped in preseason...as if that never happens.

After getting upset at home in last week's season opener, the Kansas State Wildcats looked to fast start and a couple of big plays to help secure their first win of the 2013 college football season. By scoring ten points in each of the first two quarters the Wildcats carried a 20-3 lead over Louisiana-Lafayette into the locker room.

They opened the second half with a 94-yard kickoff return by Tramaine Thompson to expand their lead to 27-3, but then the Cajuns found their offensive stride and turned the game into a bit of a shootout. Louisiana-Lafayette returned the next kickoff 100-yards to get a touchdown back, and then scored another touchdown just two minutes later to draw to within ten points at 27-17.

With the ball in their hands and moving the Cajuns were primed to make it a one-score game but Tye Zimmerman stepped in front of a pass and returned it 32 yards to pay dirt. Lafayette would score again but it was too late at that point as the Wildcats had enough cushion to finish off a 48-27 win.

The competition hasn't been strong but the results have been impressive none the less. For the second week in a row the Baylor Bears have put up Play Station type numbers on offense while also playing stingy defense. After racking up 56 points in the first half the Bears were able to cruise to a 70-13 win over Buffalo by scoring just two second half touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Bryce Petty was 13/16 for 338 yards and two touchdowns and running back Lache Seastrunk ran for 150 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries. In all, the Baylor offense racked up 781 yards and that's with taking their foot off the gas in the second half.

With the struggles by several defenses within the Big Twelve Conference you have to give the Bears a solid advantage over just about anyone on their schedule. Consistency is the main factor that coaches are looking for early in the season and through two weeks Baylor has consistently shown they've had the best offense in the conference.

It wasn't pretty but it was a win. A week after holding Mississippi State to just a field goal, the Oklahoma State defense was stretched by Texas San Antonio.

OSU's offense was clicking on all cylinders as the Cowboys built a 42-7 lead through the first three quarters of the game. However, UTSA was able to keep it interesting by scoring four touchdowns in the final 15 minutes. The Roadrunners racked up 504 yards of total offense (369 through the air) before finally falling 56-35 to the Cowboys.

It appears as if the OSU offense is going to be every bit as good as advertised. The Cowboys posted 605 total yards of offense, along with their 56 points, and didn't turn the ball over at all. However, the question to take away from this game is, what is the true identity of the OSU defense?

The TCU Horned Frogs recorded their first win of the 2013 college football season but it came at the expenses of quarterback Casey Pachall. With the game tied at 14-14, just before the half, Pachall injured his left wrist on a running play. Trevone Boykin came in and led TCU to a field goal on the drive and then got the offense rolling in the second half.

TCU scored touchdowns on three of their first four possessions of the second half defeat Southeastern Louisiana 38-17.

The Big Twelve lineup is pretty much junk today, with West Virginia at Oklahoma and Texas at BYU being the only games worth noting. As bad as last weekend was for the conference, if any Big Twelve teams are upset this week it'll be even worse.

Big Twelve Schedule

11:00 SE Louisiana at #24 TCU'

11:00 #13 Oklahoma State at UTSA

2:30 Buffalo at #23 Baylor

5:30 LA Lafayette at Kansas State

6:00 West Virginia at #16 Oklahoma

6:00 South Dakota at Kansas

6:00 SF Austin at Texas Tech

There's not a whole lot out there in the way of national games of interest either. In all actuality, it may be a good day to go out and get some yard work or something along those lines done.
