The Sooners secured consecutive wins over their in-state rival Oral Roberts Wednesday night with a 15-8 victory behind an impressive 14 hits. It marks the fourth straight game in which Oklahoma has put up at least 10 hits or more as a team. With the win, Oklahoma extended their current winning streak out to seven games.

Matt Oberste continues his ridiculous hot streak going 3-for-4 in the game with a double, four RBI, and his team leading seventh home run of the season. Dating back to last season, his current hit streak now stands at 26 consecutive games.

Joining Oberste in the hit parade were teammates Jack Mayfield (2-4, two runs, his third home run on the season, and three RBI) and Hector Lorenzana (3-5, three RBI).

Kyle Hayes made his first start of the season for the Sooners and lasted four innings, but allowed seven runs however only three of those were earned. Billy Waltrip came on in relief and while not pitching particularly well, he did enough in his one inning of work to earn the victory. Ralph Garza, Jr. would come on for the final four innings and was easily the most effective pitcher for OU on the night allowing just three hits and one run.

The Sooners return to action this weekend with their Big 12 opener against TCU with the series scheduled to kick off on Friday at 2 p.m. (CST).

Oklahoma's Corey Copping threw the first pitch of Tuesday night's game at 6:35 p.m. and some five hours later the Sooners needed a walk-off hit to earn a 9-8 victory over Oral Roberts. That hit was delivered by backup catcher Mac James and if you were watching the game like some OU fans, you know based on how many times the announcers referenced how late it was that the game winning hit could not have come soon enough.

With a four run bottom of the first, few would have thought a fifteen inning affair would have been necessary. That Oklahoma lead would be short-lived however as the Golden Eagles would put up a six spot in their half of the second. They would go on to add two more in the fourth in what would eventually prove to be their final runs of the ball game. Plenty of credit has to go to the OU bullpen for holding Oral Roberts scoreless over the next eleven innings.

The Oklahoma offense would plate two sixth, then two more in the seventh to tie the game up. Over the next several innings the Sooners had any number of chances to win the game, but failed to get the necessary timely hit with runners in scoring position. That is until the aforementioned fifteenth inning and the walk off single delivered by James.

Freshman pitcher Jacob Evans, one of six OU pitchers used in the game, earned the win with five scoreless innings of work in relief. Matt Oberste extended his now 25-game hitting streak batting 4-for-6 in the game and walking twice. Freshman outfielder Hunter Haley also went 4-for-6 in the game, the four hits a career high, and two RBI.

The Sooners will conclude the two game set Wednesday night in L. Dale Mitchell with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CST).

The Sooners are looking to continue their current five game winning streak with a mid-week set against their familiar in-state foe the Golden Eagles.

A quick primer via Sooner Sports:

The Sooners (17-4) are riding a five-game winning streak after sweeping Northwestern State last weekend. Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Gray -- the two-time reigning Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week -- fanned a career-high 12 in a complete-game effort to push OU to a 1-0 victory Friday. Four players posted multi-hit efforts to propel the Sooners to a 7-2 win Saturday. Redshirt freshman southpaw starting pitcher Adam Choplick fanned a career-high eight, and junior infielder Matt Oberste matched his career best by going 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and extending his hitting streak to 24 straight games dating back to the 2012 season as Oklahoma sealed the sweep Sunday.

Oklahoma begins Week 6 of the 2013 season ranked No. 16 by USA Today, No. 17 by Baseball America, No. 18 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the NCBWA and No. 21 by Perfect Game.

OU leads the all-time series over Oral Roberts, 34-29, including a sweep of the 2012 series with wins of 5-2 and 6-3. Oklahoma head coach Sunny Golloway served as the ORU skipper for eight seasons (1996-2003), posting a mark of 335-156 and leading the Golden Eagles to six consecutive regular season and tournament titles and advancing to six consecutive NCAA Regionals.
