Sunny Golloway and his Oklahoma Sooners found themselves in a bit of drama as the New Mexico St. Aggies took to the field for the second game of the mid-week series.

Jack Mayfield started things off with a leadoff single up the left side. He would later be brought in with RBI groundout by Max White as Oklahoma plated their first run of the game. While the Sooners gave the appearance that they were going to run away with things against New Mexico St., the fourth inning changed all that.

Through three innings, Sunny Golloway and his ball club held on to their one run lead. Then, in the top of the fourth, the Aggies tied things up at 1-1 while giving fans quite the scare. Through several scoreless innings, Oklahoma found themselves in some trouble as the Aggies plated another runner in the six inning to take the lead 2-1.

All the pressure would remain on the Sooners as they were the heavy favorites heading into this matchup. Using a pinch hitter in Justin Burba, a kid who excelled at the high school level, Oklahoma evened up the score as Burba connected on a double. Down to their final out of the inning, Mayfield brought Burba in making it 2-2.

In the top of the eighth, Jacob Evans stood on the bump after Billy Waltrip loaded the bases with no outs. Thanks to some timely pitching, a strikeout as well as a groundout double-play, Evans escaped the inning unscathed and would eventually get the win after two innings of work. Evans is now 2-0 on the season

Kyle Hayes got his first start of his career and sat down a career high six batters in five inning of work from the mound.

Just as things started with Mayfield, they ended with Mayfield. In the bottom of the ninth, with the score tied a two a piece, Mayfield hit a fly ball to deep right field with Kolbey Carpenter on third base. The tag up and sac fly allowed Carpenter to score the winning run as the Sooners secured their third walk-off of the season.

If you are tracking Matt Oberste's hit streak, he is up to 21 consecutive games with a hit after this evening. This marks a tie with the fourth longest streaks in school history.

Before last Saturday's 4-0 win at UCLA you'd have to go back to May of last season to find Oklahoma's last shutout victory. Now, thanks to Tuesday night's 8-0 win over New Mexico State, they've done it twice in the last three games. OU's four pitchers only gave up four hits in the game and recorded ten strikeouts.

Starter Drew Krittenbrink only lasted 2.1 innings because of control issues. He struck out two of the ten batters that he faced but also walked four others. Ralph Garza Jr. was the first to come in as relief and he worked the bulk of the game, throwing 4.1 innings. During that time he fanned five batters and allowed just one hit. Jake Fisher didn't allow a hit over his 1.1 innings of work before Kindle Ladd closed out the ninth inning, only allowing one hit.

The game was fairly close through the first five innings. Oklahoma scored a run in the first and then another in the third to carry a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Sooners would plate four runs on four hits in the inning and the Aggies would burn through four pitchers. Kolbey Carpenter, Hunter Haley, Max White and Matt Oberste all scored for Oklahoma, blowing the game open 6-0. The Sooners added two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to get the final of 8-0.

Sunny Golloway has yet to announce starters for the Sooners but New Mexico looks to throw a pair of right-handed seniors at Oklahoma. Casey Collins is tabbed as the Tuesday starter. He carries a 1-1 record into the game with a 5.60 ERA. In 17.2 innings of work this season he has fanned 13 batters. Wednesday evening the Aggies will throw Adam Mott who is 2-1 on the season with a 4.56 ERA. He had struck out 23 batters, this season, during his 25.2 innings of work.

New Mexico State is 8-8 on the season but also carries a 2-5 record in road games. They are led from the plate by Tanner Rust who is batting .339 with six RBI and a team-high 27 total bases. Robert Lecount has knocked in a team-high 18 RBI and is one of four players to have hit two home runs this season. As a team the Aggies are batting .263 through sixteen games.

Matt Oberste continues to keep his batting average above .400 and has hit team highs in home runs (5), RBI (24), and total bases (49). He is joined by Max White (.317) and Hector Lorenzana (.311) as players who are batting .300 or better. As a team the Soones are batting .285 through sixteen games.

Oklahoma's starting pitchers are most likely not going to be identified until the lineup cards come put but Corey Copping, Kyle Hayes and Ethan Carnes are likely candidates.
