Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting: 2021 DB Damond Harmon commits to Oklahoma

Harmon has also received offers from Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and several others.

With the commitment of Caleb Williams, Sooner fans should expect more players from the DMV Area to pledge to the Oklahoma Sooners in the coming years. Such is the case with OU’s most recent commit in Damond Harmon, a cornerback from Highland Springs, Va.

Harmon has been friends with Caleb Williams since fifth grade and he is not the only one that wants to play with the nation’s No. 1 QB as they transition to college. Harmon, although currently rated a 3-star player per 247Composite, has an impressive offer list. He’s chosen OU over schools such as Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and several others.

For what it’s worth (and it is worth a lot), Harmon is also a high school teammate of major OU DE target Kelvin Gilliam.

Harmon fits the mold of the future Alex Grinch is trying to create long athletes at every position on the field. Harmon currently has at a 6’1, 178-pound frame that can carry another 10 pounds easily. His film is filled with run-stopping and downhill tackling, and he may be better used as a safety in Grinch’s defense. By the time he gets to campus, he may be nearly 6’2 and 190, which would set him up to be one of the bigger defensive backs Oklahoma has seen in quite some time. It gives him the ability to play in several spots for the Sooners.

Harmon is now Oklahoma’s 13th commit of the 2021 recruiting cycle, and the OU class now sits at No. 14 in the 247Composite Team Rankings. His commitment is also a testament to the differences in defensive back that Alex Grinch wants in his athletes with guys like Latrell McCutchin, Jordan Mukes and Caleb Johnson already committed. Currently, Harmon is rated as the No. 40 CB nationally and the No. 13 player in Virginia. However, I suspect that if high school football is played this year, he will rise substantially up the ratings. The Sooners are securing significant needs on both side of the ball, and it would appear that their championship window may be opening sooner rather than later.
