Plenty of big names are still left on the board for the Oklahoma Sooners’ 2021 class, but this week brings a commitment from a name that has been a bit less familiar to OU fans — that of Greenville (Texas) ATH Caleb Johnson. The commitment was originally reported by his local paper, the Herald Banner, which is quite a throwback in the recruiting world.

Johnson is listed as the No. 37 CB and No. 519 overall prospect in the 247Composite Rankings. However, at this stage, Oklahoma views Johnson as an athlete. He’s likely a bit more suited for the offensive side of the ball, but if the Sooners miss out on Kendall Daniels or other DBs in this cycle, it’s easy to see him getting a crack in the secondary.

While he’s only considered a three-star prospect by the services, Johnson’s list of offers paints a much more accurate picture. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M have extended offers at some point in his recruiting process, and his explosive speed is one of the primary reasons.

Johnson is Oklahoma’s 12th commitment in the 2020 class, which now sits at No. 14 in the 247Composite Team Rankings. He’s listed as the No. 37 CB and No. 519 overall prospect in the 247Composite Rankings.
