Virtual Big 12 Media Days has been delayed until Aug 3., but the “attendees” have already cast their ballots for the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. The results are in, and five Oklahoma Sooners have made the cut. Additionally, presumptive starting QB Spencer Rattler has earned the nod for Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year.

Full Team

OU’s five-man group of Creed Humphrey, Adrian Ealy, Charleston Rambo, Gabe Brkic and Ronnie Perkins is tied for the largest contingent in the conference. The Texas Longhorns also have five names on the list, with Sam Ehlinger, Samuel Cosmi, Joseph Assai, Caden Sterns and DShawn Jamison making the cut.

Rattler receiving the newcomer honor comes as little surprise, as the redshirt freshman and former five-star prospect currently has the fourth-best Heisman Trophy odds per Bovada, leading all Big 12 players. Other honorees include Oklahoma State Cowboys RB Chuba Hubbard as Offensive Player of the Year and West Virginia Mountaineers DL Darius Stills as Defensive Player of the Year.

If I was forced to pinpoint one snub, I would probably have to go with guard Marquis Hayes, who carries the torch passed from Orlando Brown and Cody Ford. What do I mean by this? I’m talking about a combination of mammoth strength, surprising athleticism and unrivaled (though sometimes unhinged) ferocity that makes him a problem for opposing defensive linemen. His ceiling is about as high as any player that Bill Benenbaugh has had the privilege of molding, and an enormous season seems likely.
