Jamar Cain’s impact has been noticeable in Norman from the jump, and you had better believe that this includes the Oklahoma Sooners’ efforts on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, that impact become more official with the signing of four-star DE/OLB Clayton Smith out of Texas High in Texarkana, Texas.
The nation’s No. 43 overall prospect also received offers from the likes of Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas and many others during his recruiting process, but the Sooners came out on top to land on of the top pass rushers in the 2021 class. With Alex Grinch’s aggressive defensive philosophy, who could blame him?
Where he fits
With his explosiveness, athleticism, length and straight-line speed, the RUSH LB position is the destination for Smith. He has the potential to become a multi-year starter at the position and has all of the physical tools to become a high draft pick once his time in Norman has finished. Under the tutelage of Cain, it seems more than doable.
