The Oklahoma Sooners have signed the No. 2 prospect in the Sooner State in four-star defensive end Ethan Downs. A jack-of-all-trades player for Weatherford High School, Downs ranks as the No. 168 overall prospect in 2021 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Downs earned an offer from the Sooners after a strong camp performance in Norman and would go on to push for the top ranking in the state of Oklahoma. He also received offers from other P5 programs such as LSU, Penn State, Iowa State, Texas and Arkansas.

How He Fits

Downs will be an interesting fit for the Sooners’ defensive front. At 6’4”, 240 pounds, he could stay at his current weight and become a rush end, but that doesn’t seem to be his natural position and would take some time to develop as a pass rusher. You’re more likely to see his hand in the dirt after he bulks up.
