We’ve reached the point where the majority of the country’s top 2021 prospects are already verbally committed to some school or another. Most of those commitments will stick, though there will certainly be exceptions. Additionally, the majority of current commits will be signing a National Letter of Intent when the Early Signing Period begins Wednesday morning (again — with some exceptions).
Entering Wednesday, the Oklahoma Sooners have 15 commitments in their 2021 class, which currently sits at No. 10 in the 247Composite Team Rankings (now No. 7 with the addition of Byrd!). However, OU’s class will receive a major rankings boost in the coming days and weeks, as major targets are still on the table.
Down at the bottom of the page, we’ll be keeping track of signatures and moving the names around accordingly.
Current Early Period Targets
Bryce Foster (announcing Dec. 18) - OG - Taylor (Katy, TX) - Four Stars - No. 4 OG - No. 72 overall
“It depends on who you talk to” is the consensus on this battle between the Sooners and the Texas A&M Aggies. This one will likely come down to the buzzer.
Camar Wheaton (announcing Dec. 23) - RB - Lakeview Centennial (Garland, TX) - Five Stars - No. 2 RB - No. 26 overall
At this stage in the proceedings, it almost seems as if the Sooners have simply outlasted every suitor, as Alabama is the only other finalist in this race. There hasn’t been much smoke from the Tuscaloosa side of things in quite some time, so there’s little reason to doubt that Wheaton ends up a Sooner.
Tristan Leigh (announcing Jan. 2) - OT - Robinson Secondary (Fairfax, VA) - Five Stars - No. 4 OT - No. 11 overall
Caleb Williams needs someone to protect his blind side, and he sees Leigh as just the man for the job. That selling point appears to have paid off. OU has seized the momentum from the LSU Tigers, and barring a serious 11th-hour coup from the Florida Gators (who recently received a visit), Norman is looking like the spot. He’ll be making his announcement on Jan. 2 during the Army All-American coverage, but in the new era of the Early Signing Period, the staffs often know the official (and I mean official) verdicts long before the public announcements.
Jardin Gilbert (announcing Jan. 2) - S - University Lab (Baton Rouge, LA) - Four Stars - No. 19 S - No. 284 overall
LSU is now making it clear that it wants him. For a kid from Baton Rouge, that just about does it.
Current Commitments
All 16 of Oklahoma’s commitments (including Byrd) have now signed!

Savion Byrd (announcing Dec. 16) - OT - Duncanville (TX) - Four Stars - No. 9 OT - No. 62 overall
Byrd was rumored to be leaning SMU as recently as Tuesday evening, but Bill Bedenbaugh and the Sooners have pulled out a big-time win!
