Hallelujah!

Following two postponements and a cancellation, the Oklahoma Sooners’ original season opener has a new date. Lon Kruger’s squad is now set to host the UTSA Roadrunners on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The game, which was originally postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the OU program, will air on FSOK and the Sooner Sports Radio Network.

I’ve been pessimistic about either of the postponed games (the other being UCF) ever taking place, but this one makes a bit of sense. When taking the close relationship between Kruger and former player/assistant Steve Henson into account, it’s easy to see how the two programs were able to work together and figure something out. This also obviously bodes well for Sunday’s Big 12 Conference opener at TCU.

Ever since OU’s 2019-20 season was cut short, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the tipoff of this campaign. No, the Sooners aren’t going to compete for a Big 12 title, but adding newcomer Umoja Gibson to this experienced lineup is a recipe for entertaining and high-scoring affairs, and this team should have the firepower to make another run at the NCAA Tournament.
