One day after being listed as the third running back on the team’s initial depth chart, Oklahoma Sooners sophomore T.J. Pledger has announced via Instagram that he has undergone successful surgery.
Pledger, a former four-star recruit out of IMG Academy, appeared in seven games as a true freshman, rushing for 179 yards on 30 carries.
The timetable and specifics have not been announced, but hopefully this isn’t something that will keep him out for a long period of time. Fortunately, Oklahoma’s running back room is stout, and this presents a major opportunity for JUCO transfer Rhamondre Stevenson to play a role in the immediate future. With he and talented freshman Marcus Major waiting in the wings behind proven veterans Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks, OU should be perfectly fine at the position for the time being.
Having said that, it’s unfortunate to see this happen to Pledger, who has shown promise in his own right. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery and reenters the fold before too long.
