The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up their first linebacker commitment of the 2020 class with three-star OLB Edgerrin Cooper out of Covington, Louisiana. The 6’1.5”, 205-pound prospect has chosen OU over Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Houston and others.

Cooper is the fourth defensive commitment for the Sooners’ 2020 class now comprised of 12 recruits, and is the first linebacker pickup in this recruiting cycle. At this point, he projects at the WILL position, but there’s reason to believe he could certainly get a look at MIKE, as well. Size-wise, Cooper isn’t necessarily the biggest guy, but he has plenty of room to add to that frame of his.
On tape, Cooper shows patience and agility, which allows him to read what the offense is doing and accelerate up the field without getting lost in the wash at the line of scrimmage.
With the addition of Cooper, Oklahoma’s 2020 recruiting class ranking moves up to No. 10 in 247’s Composite Team Rankings and remains first in the Big 12. Also, now every level of the defense has at least one verbal commitment going for it, with plenty more spots to fill up as the recruiting season wages on.
