While Lon Kruger appears to be sticking around for the foreseeable future, son Kevin Kruger will be leaving the Oklahoma Sooners staff for a assistant coaching position at UNLV, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Kruger will be joining the staff of first-year UNLV head coach T.J. Otzelberger, who was previously at South Dakota State.

Kruger had been on his father’s staff at Oklahoma for three seasons following a two-year stint at Northern Arizona. Prior to that, he played professional basketball from 2007-13 in Bulgaria, Italy, Mexico, Belgium and Germany in addition to a few stints in the NBA G-League. As a collegian, he played three seasons at Arizona State before joining his father’s UNLV team as a grad transfer in 2006.
“This has always been home,” Kruger said to the Review-Journal Tuesday. “When people ask me where I’m from, I’ve always said Vegas. It’s a great feeling to be able to come back home.”
