The top two women’s gymnastics teams in the country faced off Sunday afternoon in Norman, and the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners were firing on all cylinders in their biggest matchup of the season. It turned out that they needed every single point to pull off the 197.775-197.575 victory over No. 2 UCLA. This one was personal for OU after coming in second to the Bruins at the NCAA Super Six last season.

OU posted one of it’s strongest showings of the day on the bars where Karrie Thomas, Brenna Dowell, Nicole Lehrmann, and Maggie Nichols all posted consecutive 9.925 routines to give the Sooners a 49.575 team score.
The teams were tied at 148.200 headed into the final rotation. It all came down to freshman Olivia Trautman’s floor routine in the anchor spot. Trautman, who posted a perfect 10 floor routine just a few weeks ago, flawlessly executed a 9.95 routine to cap off the victory for the Sooners.
Another notable number from Sunday was the record crowd of 10,177.

It turns out that if you put a decent product on the floor at the Lloyd Noble Center, people will show up to watch. Who knew?
Sunday’s win helped OU remain undefeated on the season with only three matchups remaining before the Big 12 Championships. The Sooners’ next matchup is next Saturday, March 9 at Michigan (11 a.m. CT).
Congrats to Coach Kindler, @MagsGotSwag12 & the entire @OU_WGymnastics on a huge win today....fun to watch!
