Following his Jan. 17 commitment, the Oklahoma Sooners have officially signed four-star edge rusher David Ugwoegbu. The Katy, Texas product was the first defensive player to commit to OU following the hiring of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, and he made it official on Wednesday with a signed National Letter of Intent.
David, the future starts now.

At 6’5” and around 225 lbs., Ugwoegbu is a physically imposing pass rusher who will be big enough to put his hand in the ground at the next level if need be. It came down to Oklahoma and Texas A&M for the Seven Lakes standout, and ultimately he chose the Sooners over the Aggies. He also received offers from Alabama, Florida, Texas and others at points throughout his recruiting process.
For as big and rangy of an athlete Ugwoegbu is, he’s more than comfortable with standing up off the line of scrimmage and making plays in space. He also possesses the kind of frame that can easily pack on a good 30-40 pounds of weight, if not more, all while still retaining his natural closing speed and athleticism. His pursuit of the ball is another part of his game that Alex Grinch and the staff are likely salivating over. With all the talk of playing with more energy and aggressiveness on defense as a whole, Ugwoegbu should have no problem adjusting to the next level with the kind of motor he clearly possesses.
