After a long period of uncertainty and a few days of acceptance, four-star running back Jase McClellan is officially no longer committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. The Aledo (Texas) standout will instead be joining the Alabama Crimson Tide after being verbally committed to the OU since July 27, 2017.

Earlier this week, it became clear that Oklahoma had lost its grip on the nation’s No. 6 running back, with one such indicator being the fact that Lincoln Riley and other OU coaches had unfollowed him on social media platforms.

As much as it stings to lose a kid as talented as McClellan, it fortunately comes at a position where OU can afford to do so. Depth at the running back position is not going to be an issue in 2020 or beyond, and OU has already signed another talented 2020 running back in Seth McGowan. What you’ll potentially now see is the pursuit of one more back between now and February, whether that be in the form of a 2020 prospect or a grad transfer. Having said that, the timing of this is obviously horrible, so the pickings could be slim.
