The Oklahoma Sooners used downhill defense and timely offense to pass their toughest challenge to date. With a 34-27 win over the Texas Longhorns, and Georgia falling to South Carolina, OU slides up to No. 5 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. Meanwhile, UT falls from No. 11 to No. 15, making them the highest ranked two-loss team.

A few things of note:

  • Oklahoma can officially claim a win over a current top 15 team with Texas only falling four spots. While the Sooners’ schedule hasn’t been as strong as in years past, the potential for a couple more ranked wins exists with undefeated Baylor sitting at No. 18 and Iowa State lurking just outside the poll.
  • LSU took advantage of Georgia’s loss by beating Florida in Death Valley convincingly. Now Ed Orgeron’s Tigers are No. 2 in the nation, causing reigning national champ Clemson to fall once again to No. 3.
  • Georgia fell to South Carolina between the hedges in the biggest upset of the 2019 season to date. Now at the bottom of the top 10, the Bulldogs find themselves two spots behind Notre Dame — a team they beat head-to-head just a few weeks ago.
