— David Ugwoegbu (@D_U_30) January 18, 2019
Ugwoegbu is a 6’4”, 225-pound product of Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas who also held offers from Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Florida, Baylor, Tennessee, and TCU among others. This commitment is significant for OU in that Ugwoegbu is the first defensive player to commit to OU since Alex Grinch was hired as defensive coordinator, and his strengths as a pass rusher will help address one of the Sooners’ greatest defensive needs from last season.
Ugwoegbu’s commitment helps the Sooners leapfrog LSU to move up to No. 4 in the 2019 recruiting class per the 247Composite rankings. If that ranking happens to hold steady through NSD, it would be OU’s highest-ranked recruiting class since 2005.
