The second week of the 2018 NFL season began on Thursday Night Football with somewhat of a Sooner showcase. With the Baltimore Ravens in Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in an early-season divisional battle, five former Oklahoma Sooners were in action to kick off Week 2.
The Bengals outlasted the Ravens, 34-23, and Joe Mixon made his mark with 84 rushing yards on 21 attempts. He also added a reception for three yards while dealing with knee issues throughout the game. It was determined Mixon’s injury required surgery, and the second-year rusher underwent the procedure on Saturday. Though he’ll miss a little time, Mixon is expected back in a few weeks.
Following successful arthroscopic knee surgery today, #Bengals RB Joe Mixon’s timeframe for return is roughly between 2 and 4 weeks, source said. The extra time between games should help, but likely to miss at least 1.

The rookie tight end is quickly establishing himself as a red zone threat in Baltimore, while his rookie teammate, offensive tackle Orlando Brown, also saw action on the Ravens’ offense on Thursday night.
Safety Tony Jefferson recorded six solo and three assisted tackles in the loss on the road. Jefferson continues to see his role expand as the former OU defensive back is becoming a part of the Ravens’ defensive core.
The @Ravens have difficult options to consider in how they replace CJ Mosley. Can Tony Jefferson be part of the answer?https://t.co/t6epWgr96M#Ravesflock @NFL @devpanchwagh pic.twitter.com/zVuk7M86r5

The biggest play from a Sooner in Week 2 came from Jaguars wideout Dede Westbrook, whose fourth-quarter touchdown catch clinched the win against the Patriots in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship. The former Biletnikoff winner caught four of his five targets for 84 yards and took this drag route 61 yards to the end zone.
