The Oklahoma Sooners gave fans horror flashbacks to 2017 as they narrowly escaped another massive upset scare from the Iowa State Cyclones. In the end, lightning didn’t strike twice, and the Sooners captured their first Big 12 win of the season to advance to 3-0 overall.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had another career day, hauling in 9 catches for 191 yards including a 75 yard touchdown strike from Kyler Murray in the first half. Murray put in another stellar performance going 21/29 for 3 touchdowns through the air and also led the Sooners in rushing with 77 yards.
The nail in the coffin was a late interception from cornerback Parnell Motley. Motley redeemed what was otherwise a shaky performance as he was beaten deep several times for big gains.
There was a scary moment in the second half when running back Marcelias Sutton went down with an apparent knee injury. The Sooners are already thin at running back with the loss of Rodney Anderson for the season, but thankfully Sutton was able to return in the fourth quarter.
