The Oklahoma Sooners received three verbal commitments from elite 2019 prospects on Friday, but the 2020 class got in on the action when Deerfield Beach, Fla. running back Jaylan Knighton announced his intention to play football at OU. Like many other 2020 OU targets, Knighton is in Norman for an unofficial visit this weekend.

The 5’10”, 180-lb. back earned an offer from Oklahoma back in late January, but he also touts offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami and several others. Knighton is currently one of two running backs in Oklahoma’s 2020 class, joining five-star Aledo, Texas RB Jase McClellan. OU’s 2020 class currently stands at No. 2 nationally in the 247Composite rankings.
It goes without saying that verbal commitments are non-binding, and it’s obviously very early in the process for 2020 recruits such as Knighton. Having said that, this is further evidence of how highly regarded Lincoln Riley’s program is right now in the eyes of high school prospects. It’s also encouraging to know that Oklahoma is on top for a supremely talented kid who has offers from a who’s-who of top-flight football programs — the entire 2017 College Football Playoff field in this instance.
