The Oklahoma Sooners received a commitment from Kur Kuath back on New Year’s Eve, and the move became official when the JUCO power forward signed his letter of intent with OU on Wednesday.
Although Kuath is still a bit raw offensively, the Khartoum, South Sudan native earned NJCAA third-team All-America honors at Salt Lake Community College while averaging 10.7, 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in 2017-18. As you can see from his shot-blocking numbers (third nationally amongst all JUCO players), Kuath is quite the rim protecter, and that’s no surprise when taking his length and athleticism into account.
The weight (185) is a bit of a concern at the moment, but Kuath (pronounced “Kwoth”) is definitely a nice addition to this team. Where he truly fits is a bit of a mystery, but one would think he’d be able to play both the four and the five if he can get that weight up.
Kuath joins freshman guard Jamal Bieniemy and Pacific grad transfer Miles Reynolds as the three current additions to the roster. OU will also be hosting Maine grad transfer PG Aaron Calixte for an official visit this weekend, and they’ll also host USC-Upstate Mike Cunningham the following weekend.
