This team probably deserves to be ranked a little higher, but cracking the top 25 is a start.

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team is FINALLY ranked among the AP Top 25. After going 11-1 with one of the strongest non-conference schedules, Lon Kruger’s squad is finally shown SOME respect with an appearance in the AP rankings for the first time since Week 15 of the 2017-18 season. OU’s lone loss thus far came in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament against the current No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers. From the Big 12, Kansas and Texas Tech are both in the top 11, with Kansas State, Iowa State and TCU all receiving votes.

Below is the full Week 8 AP Top 25 poll. (denotes number of first place votes)

  1. Duke (35)
  2. Michigan (9)
  3. Tennessee (12)
  4. Virginia (4)
  5. Kansas (4)
  6. Nevada
  7. Gonzaga
  8. Michigan State
  9. Florida State
  10. Virginia Tech
  11. Texas Tech
  12. Auburn
  13. Ohio State
  14. North Carolina
  15. Wisconsin
  16. Kentucky
  17. Arizona State
  18. Marquette
  19. Mississippi State
  20. North Carolina State
  21. Buffalo
  22. Houston
  23. Indiana
  24. Iowa
  25. Oklahoma

The Sooners’ next game is the Big 12 opener against the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks, but the rankings for both teams could be slightly different come game day, as the contest isn’t until next Wednesday, January 2nd. Still, it figures to be a marquee matchup between two top 25 teams at Allen Fieldhouse.
