Four-star defensive end Marcus Stripling was on the radar of the Oklahoma Sooners for quite some time, but Oklahoma’s position as the favorite was a relatively recent development. On Wednesday, OU officially closed the deal with the Houston Mayde Creek prospect, who had also considered Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU.
Stripling is an immensely talented player who possesses the size, strength, quickness and tenacity to be a legitimate problem for offensive lines.
Oklahoma has also secured the signatures of defensive ends Marcus Hicks, Kori Roberson and LaRon Stokes, defensive tackle Derek Green and edge rusher Joseph Weté, so it’s safe say that plenty of needs have been filled along the defensive front. Additionally, Oklahoma appears to be in pretty good shape for edge rusher David Ugwoegbu, who is not expected to sign with anyone until February.
OU currently has 21 public commitments (10 on offense, 11 on defense) in the 2019 class and has all but locked up a top-10 spot in the 247Composite Team Rankings. There’s also word of that number going up to 22 in the very near future.
