Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei defensive back Jeremiah Criddell was destined for Eugene before taking a visit to Norman for last month’s Bedlam game. He backed away from his commitment shortly thereafter, and it’s been a back-and-forth battle between the Oklahoma Sooners and Oregon Ducks ever since. On Wednesday, the four-star prospect announced his decision to attend OU in front of a national audience on ESPN2.
Criddell is listed as a safety (and may well play the position), but he certainly has the skill set to play cornerback at Oklahoma. In spite of the returning DB talent (and there is talent), it’s not difficult to envision this guy making an impact fairly early. When added to the equation with fellow blue-chip DB signees Jamal Morris, Woodi Washington and Jaden Davis, the Sooners certainly aren’t going to be short on talent in the defensive backfield anytime soon.
Oklahoma is now up to 20 commits — 10 on offense, 10 on defense — in the 2019 class, most of which have already signed. The addition of Criddell bolsters the profile of a group that was already sitting in the top 10 of the 247Composite Team Rankings.
