The Oklahoma Sooners are adding a dynamic playmaker in the secondary with 4-star S Jamal Morris. The Richmond, Texas native took his official visit during the weekend of the Spring Game this past April, and by the time he left he was all-in on OU. On Wednesday, he signed a National Letter of Intent to make it official.
When Morris arrives in Norman, he’ll bring something unique to the Sooners’ secondary: elite size. At 6’2” and 185 pounds, he’ll be tied with Robert Barnes as the tallest defensive back on the roster. He’s not only a big safety, however, as he’s also the No. 40 player in the rich state of Texas, the 28th ranked safety overall and an Under Armour All-American. Along with Oklahoma, he was offered by Georgia, LSU, Texas and many more.
Watch a highlight or two of Morris and he might be one of the most exciting signees in all of the 2019 class. He plays with a real Tyrann Mathieu mentality with solid instincts and elite ball-hawking skills, though he’s not quite as quick-twitched as the ‘Honey Badger’. He blows up plays in the backfield like a heat-seeking missile, and when he tracks the ball in the air, he usually makes some kind of play on it. During his returns, he’s deceptively fast due to his long strides. Even as a 4-star, he’s undoubtedly one of the more underrated players in this entire class.
