Oklahoma Sooners in the NFL: Baker Mayfield wins, Joe Mixon returns to action

Baker Mayfield recorded his first win as the Browns’ starting quarterback in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, finishing with 342 yards on 25-for-43 passing, a touchdown and an interception. In the process, he once again showed the world what fans of the Oklahoma Sooners (and opponents) already knew.

A week after making his first-ever NFL start in Oakland, Mayfield persevered through a hard-hitting, low-scoring, sometimes ugly game at home to make some stellar throws, along with the crucial plays down the stretch that set up a game-winning field goal in overtime.

Earning accolades league-wide for his moxy and playmaking abilities — including from Primetime — the Browns’ top draft pick also got his props and the game ball from his coach.

Baker and the Browns are at home against the Chargers in Week 6.

Mayfield’s former teammates Mark Andrews and Orlando Brown lined up on the other side for the Ravens. Andrews had one catch for 16 yards. Safety Tony Jefferson recorded a team-high eight solo tackles along with an assist on the afternoon for Baltimore.

Joe Mixon returned to action from a two-game absence following knee surgery. In the Bengals’ win against the Dolphins, Mixon totaled 93 yards rushing on 22 attempts while also adding 22 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Mixon didn’t waste much time to announce he’s back, and he seems poised for a big season in Cincy.

His teammate, Jordan Evans, recorded one tackle on the afternoon for the Bengals.

Kenny Stills caught two passes for 17 yards on the other side for the Dolphins.

Stills’ now-former teammate, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, was released last week by Miami. He was soon claimed off waivers by Buffalo day later and recorded three assisted tackles in the Bills’ win over the Titans. Following the win, he took a bit of a shot at his former team.

Sterling Shepard had four receptions on seven targets for 75 yards in the Giants’ loss to the Panthers. He also showed plenty of emotion on the sideline.

Dede Westbrook caught three passes for 55 yards in the Jaguars’ loss in Kansas City.

Adrian Peterson finished with six rushing yards on four carries and caught two passes for 36 yards in Washington’s loss on Monday night in New Orleans. He did, however, show some flashes of vintage AD.
