Oklahoma Sooners Football: Kansas State game set for 2:30 p.m. kickoff

The Homecoming game will have an afternoon kickoff on FOX.

For the third consecutive home game, the Oklahoma Sooners have avoided an early kickoff, as it has been announced that the Oct. 27 Homecoming Game against Kansas State has been slated for FOX’s 2:30 p.m. slot.

After opening with an 11 a.m. kick and following it up with a noon game, OU has experienced a string of good fortune as far as home kickoffs are concerned. While the first game of the streak was a PPV contest and is obviously a bit of an outlier in this discussion, the Baylor and Kansas State games have each been assigned afternoon kickoffs on major networks.

The 2:30 kickoff sort of serves as the best of both worlds, as it allows fans an adequate amount of tailgating/pregaming time while also being conducive — at least for some of you — to getting home at a reasonable hour. In this instance, it also allows enough time for Homecoming festivities.

This time slot has become somewhat of a rarity in recent years, as it’s only the sixth 2:30 p.m. home kickoff since the beginning of the 2013 season. However, that number goes up to seven if you choose to include the 2017 West Virginia game (2:45 p.m. time slot during Thanksgiving weekend).
