The Oklahoma Sooners signed 17 of its commitments back on Dec. 20, but it’s been readily apparent since that time that OU wasn’t done with the 2018 class. On Thursday evening, the class added another member when four-star DE/OLB Nik Bonitto announced his decision to attend college and play football in Norman.

Bonitto, a product of Sunshine State powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas, chose the Sooners over Texas and Louisville. After visiting Norman on Dec. 15, OU was entrenched in a serious recruiting battle with the Longhorns, who were considered the favorite as recently as the day prior to the beginning of the early period. However, it had since been rumored that Bonitto possibly signed with Oklahoma during the early period and waited until today to make his official announcement. That was confirmed when Lincoln Riley posted this tweet shortly after the announcement.

Bonitto is someone who will need to add a bit of bulk, but he has the athleticism to be a really special player out on the edge. The future of OU’s pass rush will be awfully bright with so many young and exciting players already in the fold.
Bonitto is Oklahoma’s 21st signed or committed player of the 2018 class, joining 17 current signees.
