Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting: Under Armour All-America Game

DE/OLB Nik Bonitto will be announcing his school of choice during Thursday’s Under Armour All-America Game.

SB Nation Recruiting

Plenty of Oklahoma Sooners have played in the Under Armour All-America Game since its inception, but the game seems to be missing an OU flair this time around. Well... that’s not entirely true.

Game Roster

Time: 5 p.m. CT on Jan. 4

Location: Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

TV: ESPN2

Live Stream: WatchESPN

Nik Bonitto, a four-star pass rusher from Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, is set to announce his decision during Thursday’s game. Fortunately, signs are definitely pointing to Bonitto donning an OU hat. SB Nation recruiting guru Bud Elliott spoke with Bonitto and other prospects at one of the game’s earlier practices:

“Ft. Lauderdale defensive end Nik Bonitto said that multiple schools tried to pressure him into signing early, but that all have spots remaining for him. Bonnito will be deciding Thursday during the game between Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisville, and claims that he is done with his recruiting process, despite recent interest from the Gators. Other prospects like Louisville signee Chandler Jones believe Bonnito has actually already signed with Oklahoma during the Early Signing Period, and is simply waiting to announce his commitment.”

The topic covered in the latter part of Bud’s quote has been the subject of rumor since late last month. Bonitto visited Norman on Dec. 15, and the Red River rivals began to jockey for the top position between then and the beginning of the early signing period. However, every single Chrystal Ball prediction since the evening of the 19th has pegged Oklahoma as the leader.

Bonitto is someone who will need to add a bit of bulk, but he has a chance to be a terror once that happens. If this ends up going how it seems it will, the future of OU’s pass rush will be awfully bright with other young guns such as Jalen Redmond, Addison Gumbs and others in the fold.

Although the Under Armour All-America Game may not have a huge OU imprint, that’s not the case with Saturday’s US Army All-American Bowl. That one will feature five OU signees (Brey Walker, Ronnie Perkins, Ron Tatum, TJ Pledger, Darrell Simpson) as well as some important remaining targets. Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles will also be announcing his decision that day.
