Trae Young continues to make the extraordinary look ordinary. He tied his career scoring high with 43 points and then just for fun he threw in 11 rebounds and 7 assists to lift the Oklahoma Sooners over the TCU Horned Frogs 102-97 in overtime. Young painted a picture of efficiency on Saturday, shooting 15-27 from the field and 10-18 from three.
Young’s stellar performance was accompanied by the reemergence of fellow freshman Brady Manek. Manek, who had been fairly quiet in OU’s last two games, added 22 points on 7-13 from the field and 6-9 from three. That means OU’s freshman backcourt duo shot a combined 16-27 from beyond the arc. Not too shabby.
The biggest shot of the day came from an unlikely source, as Christian James swished a three with six seconds remaining in regulation to put OU up by two. James’ big-time shot, in addition to propelling the Sooners to a win today, could do wonders for his confidence going forward.
Senior Khadeem Lattin’s four blocks moved him past the late Wayman Tisdale into third on OU’s all-time blocks list.
The Sooners are now 14-2 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play. OU’s next test will be Tuesday as they travel to Manhattan to take on the Kansas State Wildcats.
