Baker Mayfield has been at the center of attention in the sports since the Oklahoma Sooners kicked off against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night.

It started with an impressive win over the No. 2 team in the country, with Mayfield throwing three touchdown passes and looking like a damn wizard in front of a national television audience during prime time. Then he decided to plant the OU flag at midfield and celebrate on Ohio State’s logo, which was all sorts of awesome. Most people loved it, but others were butt-hurt, so Mayfield issued an apology on Monday.

On Tuesday, Mayfield revealed on The Rich Eisen show that he didn’t actually regret doing what he did and essentially told people off for being overly sensitive, much to the joy of this OU fan.

Another notable Mayfield-related story surfaced this week when ESPN Radio personality Ian Fitzsimmons gave a hilarious recollection of an extended back-and-forth between Ohio State fans and Baker Mayfield during the second half of Saturday night’s W (go to the 23-minute mark).

Behind the Oklahoma bench, there were a group of Buckeye fans that were beyond over-served. I mean these dudes were lubed up. And right at halftime, right as Baker Mayfield’s getting treatment on his lower back, he comes out and these guys are just wearing him out. He finally — right before their first possession when Ohio State goes up 10-3 to start the second half and you’re going “uh-oh” — turns around and goes, “Get ready, I’m about to hand six on you bleeping bleepers”. He leads them right down the field, the score’s tied at 10. He goes straight to the bench, stands up on the bench, and just lets the Buckeye fans behind him that were giving it to Baker... he turns at them and says, “You like that one? I’ve got three or four more of those coming up. Get ready”. - Ian Fitzsimmons on Freddie & Fitz

After everything we’ve seen and heard since Saturday, it’s become apparent that Baker simply owns that stadium and fan base. Earlier in the week, that fact actually showed up on Wikipedia, and on Tuesday it was acknowledged by Siri.

What a week to blog about OU football, I tell you what...
