Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley has confirmed via a press release that freshman quarterback Chris Robison has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.
Robison was a four-star prospect and the No. 7 pro-style quarterback in the nation per the 247Composite Rankings. By all accounts, Robison did well at quarterback in the spring. He then displayed his talent at the Spring Game before being arrested for public intoxication later that night. It has not been state whether or not this is in any way connected to the incident.
Regardless of the circumstances, this is really a shame for a kid that has loads of potential. I had said many times that I thought he had more upside than Austin Kendall and would likely pass him by in the future, but that obviously will never be the case. It’ll certainly be interesting to see where he winds up.
The dismissal leaves Oklahoma with only three scholarship quarterbacks in 2017, and preferred walk-on Tanner Schafer will now likely be the fourth-string QB. The Sooners have one quarterback committed for the class of 2018 in three-star prospect Tanner Mordecai.
