Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting: Is OU the favorite to land Reuben Unije? His teammates seem to think so

The 2018 IMG Academy OL is considering Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina and UCLA

On Wednesday, SB Nation recruiting guru Bud Elliott was on hand for media day at high school football powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Yes, a high school program has a media day. Is that kind of ridiculous? Definitely, but it provided Bud with an opportunity to get some good information on a number of high-profile recruits.

Current Oklahoma Sooners running back commit TJ Pledger, of course, is an IMG guy, and he obviously didn’t shy away from his intention to bring 2018 OL Reuben Unije with him to Norman next season. When asked about his teammate, Pledger confidently said, “Big Rube’s going to Oklahoma with me”.

But apparently Pledger isn’t the only person at IMG who thinks Unije will end up wearing the Crimson & Cream in the future. Elliott asked a large number of the players to predict where their uncommitted teammates will end up signing, and the majority predicted that he will pick Oklahoma.

Where will IMG’s uncommitted stars sign?

To be fair, Elliott did add that his name was routinely met with hesitation. However, the fact that Oklahoma was by far the top school that came to mind is an outstanding sign for the Sooners. A good enough sign, in fact, that Elliott chose the Sooners in his 247 Crystal Ball prediction for Unije.

In Unije, Oklahoma (or whichever school he eventually chooses) would be getting a strong, rangy offensive tackle who moves very well for his size. The No. 248 overall prospect in the 2018 class also has a bit of nasty to him already, which isn’t something you always see from the “big uglies” at his age. Oklahoma already has an OT commit in Brey Walker and are very much in the hunt for OT Darrell Simpson. However, OU’s future roster numbers at that position aren’t huge, so he should be a take regardless.
