Oklahoma City (Putnam City) defensive end Ron Tatum will announce his commitment on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. CT. The four-star prospect is considering Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, TCU and Texas.

Tatum, who has held an OU offer since last October, is listed as the No. 122 overall player of the 2018 class in the 247 Composite rankings. OU has always been considered the favorite in this battle, but the Texas Longhorns are not to be overlooked here. The No. 4 player in the state of Oklahoma was south of the Red River for an unofficial visit in February, and he’s had plenty of contact with the program since then.

If Oklahoma is the pick here, his announcement will be music to the ears of OU fans, who have seen their favorite program suffer through a pretty rough recruiting stretch as of late. If it goes the wrong way, people will start going further into panic mode.

Tatum is definitely someone who’s worth all the fuss, as he shows great speed and explosiveness for a guy of his size (6-4.5, 269). That size and speed allows him to be utilized in multiple defensive schemes. He’s big enough to put his hand in the dirt, but fast enough to be used as an edge rusher. There’s a reason he’s attracted the interest of so many top-flight programs, and this would be a major recruiting victory for the Oklahoma staff if it goes their way.
