Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting: DE Troy James Officially Signs with Oklahoma

The recent Arkansas decommit from Baton Rouge brings tremendous athleticism and upside to Norman.

Student Sports

As we reported last Saturday, Troy James needed little time to commit to the Sooners. Following an in-home visit earlier in the week, the versatile defensive end decommitted from Arkansas on Friday and hopped on board #SoonerSquad17 a day later. Today, he made his commitment official and signed his Letter of Intent to play at Oklahoma.

How He Fits In

The film on this kid shows sleeper potential. James has the upside to blossom into one of the most surprising and standout players of this class with development and reps at the next level. Experience lining up at tight end, running back and all over the field on defense shows off the football skill, athleticism and body control of James. Despite being rated as a three-star prospect by the major recruiting services, at 6-4, 275 pounds, he already has the body of a defensive end in both a 3-4 and a 4-3 scheme and will undoubtedly add more to his frame given time with Jerry Schmidt.

Looks like Mike Stoops and the defensive staff have added an all-around football player and potentially scary athlete in James, with the ability to develop into a contributor on defense wherever he lines up. Big 12 quarterbacks beware, Troy James and his Louisiana swagger will be coming for you!
