After an impressive week of basketball that included a 22-assist performance from Trae Young against Northwestern State as well as a 68-point half against Northwestern, the Oklahoma Sooners climbed five spots in the AP Poll and now sit at No. 12. Four teams previously ranked ahead of the Sooners — North Carolina, Kentucky, Miami and Gonzaga — lost games since the last poll was released, and Oklahoma impressed enough last week to leapfrog Purdue.

The undefeated TCU Horned Frogs, who will face Oklahoma in this coming Saturday’s conference opener, climbed five spots to No. 10 this week. No. 7 West Virginia, No. 11 Kansas, No. 18 Baylor and No. 22 Texas Tech also represent the Big 12 in this week’s AP poll.
As much as I respect Wichita State as a program, I’m not entirely sure how the Shockers are four spots ahead of the Sooners at this point. Oklahoma won on the road in Wichita and dominated majority of the game. Additionally, both teams have one loss outside of that game, both of which (Arkansas for OU, Notre Dame for Wichita State) are of fairly equal quality.
Nevertheless, I would’ve been ecstatic if you’d have told me a month ago that the Sooners would be ranked No. 12 at this point. This team is firing on all cylinders heading into conference play, and I for one can’t wait to see what’s in store.
