Tulsa Union defensive back Patrick Fields, a longtime commit to the Oklahoma Sooners, has made it official by signing a letter of intent with OU on Wednesday. Rated as a three-star prospect in the 247 Composite rankings, Fields ranks as 2018’s No. 11 player in the state of Oklahoma.
Fields originally became the fourth overall commit in the class of 2018 on March 5 of this year and plans to enroll early in the spring. He joins his friend and high school teammate Jordan Kelley, the Tulsa Union defensive tackle who has also been committed to Oklahoma since early 2017. Choosing OU over Texas and TCU, Fields has not wavered on his love for the Sooners and has been an active recruiter of his future teammates since committing last March.
How he fits in
At 6-0, 190 pounds, Fields is expected to line up at safety and comes with the championship-tested pedigree of the Oklahoma state powerhouse Tulsa Union. He possesses good size and excellent coverage skills for a DB at the high school level. Though not particularly possessing track-star speed, Fields is effective in run coverage and shows good tracking ability to set up a big hit.
He is a versatile defensive back and a kid with great character, known for being one of the vocal leaders of the 2018 class. Look for him to continue to develop into a strong contributor and leader in the OU secondary through the next few years. Oh, and he’ll also do well in the classroom.
Officially finished HS w all A’s, never receiving a B while taking AP & college classes
