Class of 2018 outside linebacker Brian Asamoah has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Oklahoma Sooners. The three-star Columbus, Ohio native received several big time offers from the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State among others. Asamoah is rated as the 34th outside linebacker in the nation.

How He Fits In

At 6’1” and 210 pounds, Asamoah plays with a physicality that jumps off the screen. His instincts when rushing the passer are apparent, and he has a knack for blowing up plays in the backfield. His first step may not be at Eric Striker-levels (yet) as far as burst goes, but when he does go after the passer or a ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage, he is usually fundamentally sound with the angles he takes and his tackling technique.

Asamoah also played running back in high school, but don’t expect him to be the next Jabrill Peppers and play on both sides of the ball in college. What fans can take away from his experience on the offensive side of the ball is his full spectrum of athleticism. On several of his runs he has shown nice hands and good speed, along with some insane hurdling ability.

Brian Asamoah committed to the Sooners on September 7th, just days after his official visit during the season opener against UTEP. It wasn’t Asamoah’s first visit to campus, however, as he was also in attendance for the Sooners’ Champ U BBQ back in July. After seeing what the game day atmosphere is like in Norman, it didn’t take long for Asamoah to pull the trigger.

During an interview with Brooke Pryor of The Oklahoman, Asamoah noted the family atmosphere. “Everybody's bought in,” Asamoah said, “everybody loves each other. That's the tradition I like, and I'm carrying it here. Play for your brother and play for the guy next to you.”
