Starting in 2018, the Oklahoma Sooners will be the third FBS program to represent Jordan Brand on the football field, joining North Carolina and Michigan. Oklahoma’s men’s and women’s basketball programs will also be part of the new partnership with Nike’s sister brand. Jordan Brand merchandise will be available to the public beginning May 1, 2018.

Nike’s announcement of the partnership can be found here.

Earlier today, former Sooner and current Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin broke the news to the men’s and women’s teams.

This is a fantistic move for Oklahoma athletics for a number of reasons. Above all, OU benefits from a unique partnership without distancing itself from Nike. Trust me when I tell you that this is something that recruits are going to love.

Also, who doesn’t love Michael Jordan? Am I bothered by the fact that a silhouette of a basketball player will be on my favorite schools’s football uniform? Absolutely not. I’m sure the grumpier faction of the fan base will complain, but who cares? This is an outstanding development that will do nothing but benefit OU.

One final thought — if OU doesn’t play Jumpman during the game on Saturday night I’m going to be very upset, and so should you.
