Oklahoma State (-6.5) at Iowa State - They’re expecting temperatures in the 30s and winds in the mid-teens. If there’s precipitation (there isn’t supposed to be much of a chance until that evening), it would likely have a negative effect on Mason Rudolph. As it stands, I still like Oklahoma State’s chances to put up enough points to win a relatively close one. Gambling pick: Oklahoma State narrowly covers. Under 60.5
Michigan State at Ohio State (-16.5) - I like the chances of a pissed-off Ohio State team getting a W at home, but that’s an awfully big line and Michigan State’s defense is solid. Gambling pick: Michigan State beats the spread in a losing effort. Under 53.5
Georgia (-2.5) at Auburn - Georgia hasn’t exactly been tested by its SEC East brethren in recent weeks, so I could kind of picture UGA getting out to a slow start in this one. On the other hand, Jake Stidham did quite poorly the last time he faced a defense of this caliber (Clemson). As an OU fan, I’m rooting for an Auburn win this week followed by an Iron Bowl loss two weeks later. If Bama then beats a one-loss UGA team in Atlanta, only one SEC team would get into the playoff. Gambling pick: Unfortunately, I think Georgia takes down Auburn and covers. Under 47
West Virginia at Kansas State (-2.5) - K-State might be down to the third-string QB on Saturday, but they’re been predictably mum about it. This is something that can work for or against either team in a few ways. On the other side of the ball, the secondary has been sort of the weak link of the K-State defense, so Will Grier could have a good day. Gambling pick: Will Grier will have a good day, leading West Virginia to a W in the process. Over 62.5
Iowa at Wisconsin (-12) - An Iowa win would essentially knock the Big Ten out of the CFP, but it doesn’t seem terribly likely. Iowa is coming off a big and emotional home win and could be in for a bit of a letdown. Wisconsin, on the other hand, has something to prove. Despite how much I think this favors the Badgers, do any of you picture this one being lopsided? Gambling pick: Wisconsin wins, but Iowa narrowly beats the spread. Under 46
Kansas at Texas (-34) - Kansas is worse than it was a year ago and Texas is a bit better, so a repeat of last year likely shouldn’t cross your mind. But can the Jayhawks cover here? Gambling pick: Texas will probably shut Kansas out and put around 40 on the board. Like I said, Kansas is beyond terrible. Under 55
Alabama (-14) at Mississippi State - Stark Vegas will be a-rockin’, but that’s not something that ever seems to phase Alabama teams. Mississippi State is solid on both sides of the ball, but I don’t picture them consistently moving the ball on Alabama. Will Alabama be able to put up enough points to cover? Georgia and Auburn were able to do it, so Bama is more than capable. Gambling pick: Mississippi State hangs around for a bit, but Alabama pulls away and covers in the second half.
Notre Dame (-3.5) at Miami - Josh Adams seems like he’ll be good to go. He’s not a back who needs a ton of help, but he’ll have plenty of it from what is arguably the best run-blocking offensive line in the country. Miami brought plenty of swagger on defense last week and made a bit of a statement, but they’re in for a much different test on Saturday. Offensively, Miami really hasn’t been impressive this season, so I kind of see this game being a bit of a dud. Gambling pick: Notre Dame covers and wins by double digits. Under 57.5
TCU at Oklahoma (-6.5) - I think TCU could beat OU by having some early success in the run game, which in turn would likely have the Oklahoma defense completely out of sorts. Conversely, if OU can stop the run and force TCU to be a bit more one-dimensional, they might actually have some success on the defensive side. The issue is that OU will likely be playing at least one freshman CB on Saturday, so Tre Norwood and/or Tre Brown will need to step up. As far as the strength vs. strength matchup is concerned, I'd give Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma the edge simply because they can beat a defense in so many different ways. Gambling pick: The Oklahoma Sooners cover with a 38-24 win, and the teams barely reach the over. Over 61.5
