The Oklahoma Sooners earned their fifth commitment of the 2019 class on Friday, as Jacksonville (NC) Southwest defensive tackle Derek Green announced his intention to play college football in Norman. The three-star recruit received an offer from Oklahoma this past weekend.
I would like to thank every school that has been recruiting me since my high school career started but it was time for me to make a decision....so I have verbally committed to the University of Oklahoma!!! pic.twitter.com/Ts0XMFaKHE— Derek Green (@derekgreenn) November 18, 2017
At 6’5” and 309 pounds, Green has the chance to be quite an imposing force in the future. Another thing that sticks out about him is his explosiveness, which is demonstrated in both his defensive and offensive highlights.
Oklahoma is relatively early to the party with Green considering that Virginia is his only other current offer. Making an impression early should only help matters in terms of his future recruitment, but it’ll be interesting to see how things shake out if he starts racking up offers from other big programs. At the moment, this is a nice development for the future of the interior defensive line. Ruffin McNeill has a history of finding under-the-radar talent and developing these prospects into great players, so good things could potentially be in store here.
