Oklahoma Sooners Football: College Football Schedule & Gambling Picks - Week 6

The Oklahoma Sooners are back from a bye week. Will they cover the spread against Iowa State?

Get pumped, Sooner fans — we finally have a game to be excited about! Yeah, it’s Iowa State. Sure, it’s an 11 a.m. game... well now I’m not feeling quite as excited. Disregard!

But seriously, we’re glad to be past the bye week. Fans don’t like them, but fans who are also bloggers like them even less. We’ve been trying like hell to bring you plenty of #content, but you run out of interesting stuff to talk about at some point. I’d like to take some time to commend the other members of this staff for coming up with ideas while I’ve been on vacation. I was an especially big fan of Kartik’s list of great individual performances of the Stoops Era.

Anyway here are the gambling picks!

Louisville (-3) at NC State - Lamar Jackson sort of flew under the radar in the preseason, came back into the spotlight after some great performances and is now back under the radar after a loss to Clemson. I’m actually really excited to watch this one because NC State’s defense actually has some decent talent this season, and their front seven is pretty legit. Gambling pick: Lamar Jackson takes a few too many sacks and makes a few too many mistakes, which lead to an NC State cover and win. Under 66

Iowa State at Oklahoma (-28.0) - Jacob Park can really sling it, but Texas was able to rattle the hell out of him last week by applying pressure. If Mike Stoops chooses to accomplish the same thing, it could be a very long day for Park. However, the Cyclones have a pair of quality backs (who should’ve seen waaaay more touches against Texas) and a defense that isn’t too shabby. Gambling pick: I think OU will win comfortably, and I think we’ll be feeling pretty good heading into OU-Texas week. However, I just predicted a 45-20 victory for OU, so I guess I have to go with Iowa State against the spread here. Under 68.5

LSU at Florida (-2.5) - Derrius Guice is supposed to be back this week, which will help, but LSU is just such a dumpster fire right now. Talent clearly isn’t the biggest issue there. I’m not saying that Florida is some sort of juggernaut that is going to destroy LSU — I’m saying that Florida is an okay team that is going to destroy LSU. Gambling pick: Florida, Florida, Florida. Under 45.5

West Virginia at TCU (-13.5) - This line seems too big to me. West Virginia’s only loss came against a good Virginia Tech team, and the Mountaineers probably should have won that game. At the same time, TCU doesn’t really have a glaring weakness. I’m just waiting for the mistake-prone Kenny Hill to finally make an appearance. I feel like he’ll emerge at some point, but he’s been absent thus far in 2017. Gambling pick: Mistake-prone Kenny Hill stays hidden and TCU covers. Under 68.5

Miami (-3) at Florida State - Miami looked good but not great against Duke last Friday, and their sample size is still pretty small. The next day, Florida State nearly dropped a game against previously undefeated by seriously outmanned Wake Forest. FSU has an overall talent edge here, but the offense just isn’t potent enough right now for me to pick them in this one. Gambling pick: Miami earns it first victory in Tallahassee since 2009 and covers the spread in the process. Under 46.5

Kansas State at Texas (-3.5) - Texas’ struggles against K-State have been well documented, but the Longhorns have won the last two in Austin. Texas also has a new coach, so some of the rivalry history (K-State leads the all-time series 10-7) should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Gambling pick: Yeah, I’m still going with Kansas State. Under 50

Alabama (-26.5) at Texas A&M - “Man... Alabama is good, but that line is ridiculous!” *Alabama proceeds to win by a billion points*

I don’t think the Aggies are as bad as they’re made out to be, and I feel the same way about Kevin Sumlin. But Alabama is going to haunt Kellen Mond’s dreams forever. It should be illegal for freshmen to start at QB against Alabama. Disclaimer: Redshirt freshmen not included. Gambling pick: Alabama by a billion. Over 54
