The Oklahoma Sooners debuted at No. 5 in the College Football Playoff Committee’s first rankings of 2017. After a lot of complaining after the release of the major polls — namely from us on Twitter — Oklahoma ended up being ranked ahead of Ohio State and Penn State in the only rankings that actually matter.

With Oklahoma State currently ranked 11th and TCU currently ranked 8th, the Sooners’ credentials will definitely be up to par if they are able to win out. Additionally, No. 15 Iowa State could theoretically face Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship, which would boost Oklahoma’s resume even more.
