Happy Gameday, Sooner Nation! A festive Homecoming weekend awaits the Oklahoma Sooners with Kliff Kingsbury and the Texas Tech Red Raiders rolling into town. As a wild October comes to an end, the conference season is in full swing and a big win today could truly propel OU into the November stretch with some much-needed momentum.

While last year’s matchup in Lubbock with the Red Raiders was an exciting, high-paced thriller, it exemplified the abomination of the concept of defense. The stats were record-setting and eye-popping, prompting some of us to ponder if touchdowns were still being scored on the Sooners even on their drive back home to Norman.

I don’t foresee this matchup being much different. I have no idea how the Sooners enter this game a 20-point favorite. Now, it’s very likely that OU could hold a three-touchdown lead over Tech at some point in the ballgame. But it’s also very likely that things get a little closer before the clock shows zeroes. It is what it is, and all we can really do is enjoy the offensive fireworks.

A mammoth recruiting weekend in Norman and a sure-to-be-hyped crowd means the Sooners definitely need to show up and show out for 60 minutes on the field. The King of Cool Kingsbury again brings in a quarterback and squad that can put up points as they have every occasion with him on the sidelines against OU.

Last year, I wrote about the wild series Oklahoma has played against Texas Tech through the Bob Stoops/Mike Leach era. The storylines are always aplenty when these two high-octane foes take the field, and this season will mark the final matchup of Baker Mayfield vs. Kliff Kingsbury. And this is, of course, Lincoln Riley’s first game against his alma mater as a head football coach.

It’s a coaching matchup of college football’s dashing leading men and a swashbuckling quarterback who just has a habit of taking over under the big lights. As Baker the Touchdown Maker has a chance to take out his old team and his first head college football coach with the nation watching in primetime, his teammates will be ready to deliver for him. Defense will likely be optional for both sides, and I see OU getting out to a lead, letting it slip a bit, then finally finishing off the job, 49-35, on a chilly October evening in Norman.

For a more detailed and enjoyable take on today’s matchup, check out Jack’s preview. It’s full of highlights and Red Raider jokes, both of which are always awesome. And, of course, be on the lookout for Sam’s recap after the game. Take care of yourselves tonight, Sooner Nation. Happy Homecoming and Boomer Sooner!
