The redshirt junior from California provided key depth to the linebacker unit.

Lincoln Riley was the bearer of bad news on Monday, as the head coach coach of the Oklahoma Sooners announced that redshirt junior linebacker Curtis Bolton is out for the season. Bolton suffered an ankle injury against Baylor on Sept. 23.

Bolton, who came to OU as a three-star recruit out of Murrieta, Calif., recorded five tackles in Oklahoma’s first four games. After redshirting in 2014, he’s recorded 16 total tackles (many on special teams) and a tackle for loss.

This is some very disappointing news, as Bolton was finally playing a key role after paying his dues for a few years. He’s an incredibly versatile linebacker was able to provide quality depth for the unit as a whole. This leaves Oklahoma very thin at that position group, so this is a pretty huge loss for the Sooners. Hopefully he’ll be able to come back to full strength and make an impact as a fifth-year senior in 2018.
