Oklahoma Sooners Football: College Football Schedule & Gambling Picks - Week 7

Will Oklahoma play inspired football after a terrible loss? I believe so. I mean... they better!

OU-Texas week is in full swing, and it’s time to turn our frowns upside down. We’ve said enough about Mike Stoops and the defense. My attention is now completely focused on the team I hate more than any other, which is how it should be on the Thursday before the Red River Shootout (Rivalry? Showdown? I can’t keep up).

Anyway, OU-Texas isn’t the only game that intrigues me this weekend, and here’s how I think the others will shake out.

Texas Tech at West Virginia (-3.5) - The Mountaineers were able to gain about 500 yards against a very solid TCU defense a week ago while holding the Frog offense well under its season average. They easily could have won in Ft. Worth last week, and they now have a chance to make a statement against a much-improved Texas Tech squad. This could turn out be the game of the day in the Big 12 or even the country. Gambling pick: Texas Tech keeps it very close the whole way, but WVU wins by a touchdown and covers. Under 76

TCU (-6) at Kansas State - I can picture Kansas State slowing this one down and just waiting for Kenny Hill to finally make a big mistake. That’s not exactly a bold assumption since that’s the way Kansas State tends to go about it’s business, but will Kenny Hill finally turn back into the old Kenny Hill? Maybe a little bit, but it won’t be enough to cost them the game. Gambling pick: TCU wins a relatively low-scoring affair and covers the spread. Under 52

Auburn (-7) at LSU - We already know that Auburn has a good defense, but the offense is finally starting to show its fangs after scoring in the 40s against the Mississippi schools. Is that a spectacular accomplishment? Not this year, but that unit has improved an awful lot since almost losing to Mercer. Meanwhile, LSU showed a bit more fight than I thought it would last week. Hey, this could actually be a good game! Gambling pick: Auburn wins, but LSU covers. Under 44

Baylor at Oklahoma State (-25.5) - I’ll keep this brief. OSU will score a ton of points but will surrender a lot of big plays against the Bears. Gambling pick: Oklahoma State is never truly threatened, but Baylor covers. Over 68

Georgia Tech at Miami (-6) - Correctly predicting the outcome of a game involving Georgia Tech is close to 100% a matter of chance, but let’s give it a try! The Canes are coming off of a huge win in Tallahassee, and a home game against GT has “trap” written all over it. The Yellow Jackets can absolutely gash you if you don’t bring your A-game, and this year’s attack is particularly potent. Gambling pick: Georgia Tech covers and wins in Miami. Over 52.5

Oklahoma (-8) vs. Texas - Contrary to how many may feel, I actually think OU is going to find a way to be successful in the run game. Texas’ front seven has been dynamite lately, but I can picture the offensive line, Trey Sermon and others (but who?) wearing Texas down if they choose to do so. Defensively, I think OU will come out with much more fire and make some plays in the open field. This one isn’t going to be easy, but I think OU ends up winning by about 10. Gambling pick: Oklahoma covers and wears the Golden Hat, bringing a smile to our faces. I’m thinking 38-28 in favor of the good guys. Over 65

Texas A&M at Florida (-3) - A&M looked kinda legit against the Tide last weekend. Florida, on the other hand, looked like poo against LSU and made me look very silly. You’re not burning me again, Florida! Gambling pick: Texas A&M covers by a decent margin. Under 51.5

Ohio State (-24) at Nebraska - I’m still not completely sold on Ohio State as this dominant squad that they’re being made out to be in recent weeks. A 56-0 win over Rutgers is par for the course, and Maryland was playing a water boy at quarterback (not really, but close). However, Nebraska really is terrible, and a 24-point margin of defeat at home isn’t a stretch. Poor, poor Nebraska. Gambling pick: Ohio State covers. Under 58.5
