In an interview released Tuesday with Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman, Oklahoma State donor T. Boone Pickens decided to bash his rival’s president.

Pickens also stated, “maybe it’s time for David to retire”.

Say what you want about David Boren, but even when he seems wishy-washy on some topics (such as expansion), all of his statements seem to be very calculated. I’m afraid I can’t say the same for ol’ T. Boone, who decided to bring attention to himself this week by making statements that can only serve to hurt his university. Honestly, he seems like the one that gets a little confused sometimes.

Pickens also decided to bash Mike Gundy, saying the following:

Yeah, these are all things that we’ve either known or assumed about Gundy over the years, but why open your mouth just days before a huge game?

With these comments, he’s made the majority of the state pretty upset, and he’s also put Burns Hargis and Mike Holder in a very tough situation. Do they come out and apologize to David Boren and publicly disavow the comments of someone who has given $500 million to their school? Honestly, they probably should. If they offend OU and David Boren, OU isn’t going to be quite as nice to them in the future. Speculation has always been - for political reasons - that OSU will ride the coattails of OU to whichever conference the Sooners decide to join in the future. Could this put that in jeopardy? To be perfectly honest, I hope so.
