Well, Sooner fans, you have an entire week to stew over an embarrassing performance while having no game to look forward to this weekend. Let’s see what Bob Stoops had to say heading into the bye week.
Stoops cals Austin Seibert’s FG to start the game “easy.” Bounced off the upright. 2nd mistake for Seibert on FGs this year (Kick 6 vs. UH)
— Ryan Aber (@ryaber) September 19, 2016
The second I saw the ball veering to my left (Seibert’s right) my heart began to sink. Ending a really solid offensive drive with something like that was a foreshadowing of what would happen that night, and I kind of knew it at the time. The Sooners made mental mistake after mental mistake during the first several drives on both sides of the ball, blowing several opportunities to seize momentum. As far as Seibert is concerned, he’s a very talented kicker that I simply will never be able to trust again in his career. It’s completely unfair, but that’s the way my brain works.
Stoops says a lot of guys won't be available to the media anymore "can't trust what they are going to put out." #Sooners

Stoops on Kendall's remarks on OU TV: It is ironic that it came from our people - if you can believe that. They won't be getting guys either
— Eric Bailey (@EricBaileyTW) September 19, 2016
Needless to say, Bob is taking the Austin Kendall situation pretty seriously. I mean, it’s pretty rare for a coach to put his school’s broadcasters on blast like that, but I don’t blame him. If OU’s own people can’t keep stuff like this from coming out, Bob has every right to be wary of them. Another ironic aspect of all of this is that the outside media members are the ones who are really paying the price for all of this.
Cody Ford had surgery on his broken leg today. Will likely miss the rest of the regular season. #Sooners
— John Shinn (@john_shinn) September 19, 2016
Kind of figured this would be the case, but that’s too bad for Ford. It’s always bad when someone gets hurt, but it’s even worse when it hinders the development of a young guy. Hopefully he can get back to full speed by 2017.
Stoops says everybody else is still probable for the next game. Couple of guys are banged up, no practice today. Practice T,W,Th, then off
— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) September 19, 2016
This is where the bye week comes in handy. A lot of different guys got banged up against Ohio State, and OU will need all hands on deck for the tough stretch ahead.
Stoops on getting the ball to Mixon: He have to cognizant of the amount of opportunities he gets. #Sooners
— John Shinn (@john_shinn) September 19, 2016
I don’t think I’m even remotely out of line in saying that Joe Mixon needs to be OU’s primary back going forward. I know Perine is more of a workhorse, but he isn’t quite quick enough to make a big impact against more talented defenses.
Stoops on visitors in town over weekend: "(Recruits) are also aware they could come in and help and make a difference." #Sooners
— Eric Bailey (@EricBaileyTW) September 19, 2016
I wouldn’t blame Bob at all for stressing this to recruits, but he needs to be careful about saying this kind of stuff publicly. Yeah, it could potentially motivate the guys who are currently on campus, but it could also cause a bit of friction in the locker room.
Stoops on Saturday's atmosphere: "I compliment the crowd, I wish we gave them more to cheer about... I thought they did a great job."
— Oklahoma Football (@OU_Football) September 19, 2016
Honestly, I was impressed with the crowd considering what they had to witness on Saturday. I’ll admit it - I left my seat at halftime, but most of the fans didn’t. Also, the South Endzone is SO much louder than it used to be. There used to be virtually no noise on that end of the field, but - as expected - the construction has made a huge difference.
On another note, OU’s game next weekend against TCU has been scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on FOX. I’m cool with that time for a game. It gives the players time to wake up and prepare while also giving the fans time to watch a little football before OU’s game. At the same time, the players don’t have to wait all day to play, which is something Bob has complained about in the past.
